'JAMRS' error from plate position 42 of the 100 (10x10) subject sheet of the 1 cent, deep green, King James I stamp from the John Guy issue of 1910, lithographed, no watermark*, line perf. 12.0x11.0. Good color and appearance, reasonably well centered. Approximately 25% of original gum disturbed by previous hinging. Good fault-free example of this iconic Newfoundland error stamp.

Produced by Whitehead, Morris and Company Limited of London from designs initially engraved and lithographed by Macdonald and Sons on relatively heavy weight, white wove paper with horizontal mesh, white (almost colorless) gum. This issue was produced to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the establishment at Cupers Cove (Cupids) in Conception Bay in 1610 of the second (after Jamestown in 1607) British "Plantation" in North America. Sponsored by the London and Bristol Company of England The actual "planting" of the new colony was supervised by John Guy.
