You are watching a custom made Intel server for VMware lab training.

About 5 years ago, I purchased and put together components of this server, because all commercial servers are too noisy in my apartment, so I have to build my own server that can run day and night without noise.

Basic information about it:

1. Motherboard: Intel S1200V3RP server motherboard.

2. CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3 3.1GHz.

3. Memory: 32 GB.

4. Hard Drive: one Intel SSD 480GB SATA drive, one Samsung SSD 1TB SATA drive.

5. Network Card: two ports onboard, one Intel I350-T4 4 port NIC, 1Gbps each. Total 6x 1G ethernet ports.

This server is compliant with VMware vSphere 6.7 requirement, I have been running this version with no issue. I don't know if it will be compatible with higher version.

All the components were brand new, and works well. I spent about $1000 for everything (hardware) 5 years ago. I used it for about 6 months to pass my VMware certification test.

Then it was sitting in my closet for 4 years, now I feel somebody may still need this very quiet server at home, so I powered it on and tested it, it still works well.

The server need to be kept on vertical position because there is a fan on the top.
