DESCRIPTION
Two very scarce works bound together in a half calf signed binding from Maclehose.
The first work present - retaining its original paper wraps - is 'The Prince and Stewart of Scotland and the Stewartry Lands in Ayrshire'. Illustrated with two plates.
The second work is a short pamphlet titled 'The Prince of Wales in Ayrshire', and was reprinted from the Glasgow Register.
Both works were published on the occasion of the visit of Edward VIII - then Prince of Wales - to Ayrshire. This was ten years prior to his appointment as King of England, and his subsequent abdication.
With the bookplate of Glasgow lawyer and book collector David Murray to the front pastedown, and his inscription to the verso of the front free endpaper. In 1927, Murray presented his personal library of some 15,000 printed books and 200 manuscripts to the University to the University of Glasgow, with many of the works relating to Glasgow and the West of Scotland.
CONDITION
In a signed half morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Fading to back strip, with light rubbing to back strip head and perimeters of front board. Bookplate to front pastedown, inscription to verso of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. The first work retains its original front and rear paper wraps. Pages clean and bright.
