The first edition, second impression of this work in a full morocco binding with a decorative leather inlay depicting Alcibiades to the front board.

Edward Frederic Benson (1867-1940) was a successful English writer, biographer, and historian, known for his wry and dry humour often exhibited in his satirical works. This is his biography of Alcibiades, an Athenian statesman and general who played a major role in the second half of the Peloponnesian War as an advisor, military commander, and politician.


CONDITION

In a full morocco binding. Externally very smart, with a faint mark to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with some spotting to the first and last few pages, and to the fore edge, affecting the occasional page.
