For sale is an early antique hand-wrought iron leg shackles
on a chain. The piece is 57 inches long,
and the shackles are 5 -6 inches wide. The
end links are clearly very old, but the 16 inches of chain in the center is of
a different twisted style and may well have been added at some point. The two shackles are different in size but
have the same horseshoe shape and seem to be filled with cement along the
concave outer edge. The chain loops at
each end have flattened spots that can slip under the curled ends of the
shackles to open them. There are no
marks.
Condition on the shackles is good, with genuine wear from
use and minor surface rust. The cement
filling has had some losses. An amazing
historic item.
