This is the 1957 First Printing of THE GREAT SAVANNAH RACES, by Julian Quattlebaum, a Pictorial History of the International Grand Prize Race of the Automobile Club of America first held and conducted by the Savannah (GA) Automobile Club in 1908 and again in 1910 and 1911. This edition was published by the author in a quarto measuring 9" x 11.25" containing 132 pp. and wrapped in a red dust jacket with vintage B&W racing photos on the front panel. Scarce, especially with the dust jacket.
While automobile races had been held in Europe earlier, it was not until after 1900 that organized races were held in the United States. These contests took the form of road races usually over a series of connected links of the best roads available. The most important of the early races were held on Long Island, New York.
