Vintage Tang Dynasty Horse Reproduction -

Dimensions are : Horse alone - 9 1/4" high , 11 1/2" long , 4" wide at its widest , with a base measurement of 6 15/16" X 6 15/16" X 1 3/8" , overall height with the base is 10 5/8" . Studio is unknown . Material is either ceramic or heavy plaster . The Tang Dynasty ruled The Empire of China from 618 - 907 CE . The 'Tang Horse' is one of the most well known and recognized creations of Art of the many dynasties of Imperial China. Many thousands were created and they have that unmistakeable form a powerful warhorse , dressed lavishly and exhibiting strength and spirit. The 'Tang Horse is and has been for centuries a favorite image for display and reproduction. There have been several instances of genuine Tang Dynasty Horses found in resale and antique shops unbeknownst to the merchant offering them unknowingly as simple reproductions , and conversely some that have been sold as authentic pieces only proven later to be 'fakes'. They exist in many sizes from very small to actual life-size. This very pleasing piece comes with an interesting 'stand' that it fits into although we are unsure whether or not it is original to the piece or simply pressed into service at a later date because it fit nicely. It is one of the nicer reproductions we have handled , suitably impressive in any setting.
