Vintage Hand Knit 1970s GERMAN DIRNDL DRESS Youth Girl *See Measurements* Original Owner Oma Handmade Deutsch Deutschland Gestrickt Oktoberfest

My parents were both German born and (separately) emigrated to the United States in the late 1950s. Chicago is where they each settled, met each other, got married and raised a family. Their culture was very important to them so my childhood Saturday mornings, you would find me in "German School" ..."Samstags Schule." Where I learned to read, write, speak and understand the language (speaking and understand I could already do as that was the primary language spoken in our household).   As a part of this German School, there were holiday performances, plays, etc.   Money was a bit tight in our household and my mom was a talented needlewoman, so instead of purchasing me the traditional garb, she knit me this particular item to wear to the performances. It definitely is a one of a kind item!

As I was recently going through some of my carefully packed away tote boxes, I came across this and oh the memories it evoked. Sadly I have no current use for it so thought perhaps someone out there would be able to provide it a good new home where it can once again be appreciated for what it is and the love and time that went into creating it.

You're looking at a SLEEVELESS HAND KNIT DIRNDL DRESS

Size: Obviously as it was custom made, there is no specific size attached to it. I know that I wore it for several years as I grew... it just got shorter as I grew taller.  This ancient photo which I have attached of me wearing it was taken in approximately 1976 so that would have made me about 10 or 11 years old...I was always a tall child.   *** Please check the measurements to ensure this will fit your intended recipient ***

According to my measurements this retro vintage handknit dress is approximately 33" long from shoulder to bottom edge and 26" around from underarm to underarm.

It is soft and comfortable to wear with a bit of mild stretch to the yarn.

It's in overall good clean vintage condition but does have some typical pilling from normal wash, wear, age and storage.

I would imagine that my mom did wash it in cold water (delicate cycle) and hung to dry.

It is a unique one of a kind article of clothing. Made with love.

NOTE: As per ebay guidelines, all items I sell go out with shipping tracking regardless of how big or small, heavy or lightweight. That price is included/reflected in the shipping/handling price. This is done for both your and my safety and peace of mind.

We are a SMOKE-FREE and PET-FREE household & all clothing is washed in allergen-free detergent. I continue to list additional items when I find the time.

Before listing an item, I carefully check it over & to the best of my ability, try to describe it as accurately as possible.

See my other listings for more great items!

PayPal payment is required within 3 days of invoice receipt on auction listings. At this point, due to too many people clicking "Buy It Now" & then never actually paying for the item, my fixed price listings require immediate payment.  ***International buyers MUST pay via PayPal only.

PLEASE NOTE that I'm happy to combine shipping on multiple items purchased at the same time by the same buyer but in order to do this, you MUST contact me (with your zip code/postal code so that I can calculate an accurate shipping price) PRIOR to paying so that I can send you a combined invoice. Thanks!

Barring any crazy weather/hazardous driving situation, I ship as quickly as possible after receipt of cleared payment.

**I gladly welcome international customers but please be advised that any and all Customs/Duty fees that may incur with the import of items you purchase from me are the responsibility of you, the Buyer. I do reserve the right to cancel bids/refund payments from buyers in countries to which I cannot ship a particular item due to your nation's import restrictions.

Please base your Feedback/Star Rating of me on things that are within my control. I respectfully ask you to realize that while I get your item packaged & off to the Post Office as quickly as humanly possible, I obviously do NOT have any control of how they handle it from there.  After I drop it off at the Post Office, the transit time is in the hands of the trusty Postal Service. They're generally quite efficient but do encounter some delays at times.

Postal rates keep increasing (obviously out of my control) & I carefully weigh the items prior to listing so that there are no surprises when it comes to shipping costs. I do include a very nominal charge to cover my packaging/printing materials. While I realize that you are looking for bargains, I too need to be able to cover my expenses.
