The original Jupiter 3 was created in the Soviet Union in the late 1940s and became popular among photographers. Production ended in 1988. LOMO produces the new Jupiter 3+ at the same Zenit plant in Russia using the original design. The optic has a solid chrome plated brass body. The lenses do not have electronics. All control is done manually.
Lomography says Jupiter 3+ contains the “Soviet spirit” of its predecessor: crisp sharpness, natural colors and dreamy bokeh. At the same time, the lens has received an improved design and will look great with modern cameras.
The minimum focusing distance has been reduced to 0.7 m, compared to 1 m on the original lens. The new body is more durable, since it is made not of aluminum, like the old optics, but of brass.
