7SEEDS"" is a Japanese manga by Yumi Tamura. It was serialized in ""Bessatsu Shoujo Comic"" (Shogakukan) from the November 2001 issue. Later, with the launch of ""Monthly Flowers"" 

Winner of the 2006 (52nd) Shogakukan Manga Award in the shoujo category, as of September 2020, the total number of copies sold, including electronic editions, has exceeded 6.5 million.

Synopsis.

It is predicted by scholars that ""in the near future, a huge celestial body will descend and the earth will be struck by various disasters, similar to the time when the dinosaurs died out"".

The idea was to select young, healthy people for cryopreservation, keep them in sleep while the earth was struck by disaster, and automatically thaw and release them when the computer determined that the earth was finally ready for human habitation. It was a grand plan to preserve the human species in the world after the disaster had passed.

The ""7SEEDS Project"" is carried out on a country-by-country basis, and in Japan there are five teams of seven members each: Spring, Summer A, Summer B, Autumn, and Winter. The criteria for being selected varied, and included the absence of hereditary diseases, premature deaths or criminals in the family, the health of the individual, his or her reproductive capacity, and whether or not he or she grew up in a prosperous and trouble-free family, was good-looking, or excelled in a certain field.
