The finely honed sensitivity and skills of master craftsman Mr. Takumi Takahashi are the essence of Takumi Kobo. Takumi Kobo insists on hand-polishing using a wooden board and cork. Hand-polishing, instead of acid-polishing, which dissolves the surface of the glass with chemicals, produces sharp edges and increases the brilliance of the glass.

About Mr. Takumi Takahashi, President of Takumi Studio, Faceted Glass Craft Laboratory
Takumi Kobo is one of the leading glass studios in Japan. Its representative, Mr. Takumi Takahashi, was born in 1941, joined his grandfather's studio "Shinjo Cut" in 1958, and established his own business as "Takahashi Glass Works" in 1964. 1980, under the guidance of Mr. Seisuke Yuri (a leading expert of Satsuma faceting), he started to restore Satsuma faceting in 1982 and has been doing it since then.
Member of the Japan Crafts Association, member of the Japan Glass Artcrafts Association, vice president of the Shinbi Crafts Association, and part-time faceting instructor at the Osaka Craft Park.

Characteristics of Satsuma faceting"
Satsuma faceted glass was produced by the Satsuma clan from the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period. The main feature of Satsuma faceted glass is the "blurring" that appears on the cut surface. The "colored glass" is made by covering transparent glass with colored glass. At the time, this was the only technique possessed by the Satsuma Clan in Japan. When a thick layer of colored glass is cut off, the color layer becomes thinner as it goes down, creating a "blur. The large, deep cut as well as the blurring is also a characteristic of Satsuma faceted glass.
