2012 Gibson Custom Shop J-200 75th Anniversary

An exceptionally rare flat top, in both production numbers and the appearance of the figured woods used in its construction. The quilted maple of the sides and back are truly stunning and of a quality rarely seen in current guitar production. There is a lot of movement in the quilt and it is very uniform across the sides and back. This body is mated to an equally figured flame maple neck. The curly maple is very uniform as well, up the length of the neck to the very end of the headstock. The bridge, fretboard, and headstock inlay are done in abalone, as is the Gibson logo and sound hole rosette. The bound headstock and gold Kluson tuners tie together the classy look of this instrument.

These guitars were put out as a limited edition to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the introduction of the J-200, only 75 were built. Gibson used a platform that had been developed for a signature model for Emmylou Harris, which was a slightly shrunken Jumbo. The lower bout width on this model and the Emmylou is 15", as opposed to the 17" width of the standard J-200. The classy visual appointments were added to the standard J-200 features. A rosewood fretboard and mustache bridge, "Bird beak" nib on the neck binding, multi-ply body binding, three piece neck, and engraved pickguard are all hallmarks of the iconic Jumbo. An L.R. Baggs element system electrified this model from the factory and it wears the custom shop badge on the back of the headstock.

The guitar is in great overall condition, not surprising for a show piece such as this. There is a tiny ding just off of the nib of the pickguard and another on the back near the body binding at the treble side lower bout. There is lacquer checking along the seam of the heel cap and in a few spots on the body binding on the front and back as well as along the headstock binding.
