Characteristics of Satsuma faceted glass.
Satsuma faceted glass was produced by the Satsuma clan from the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period. The main feature of Satsuma faceted glass is the "blur" that appears on the cut surface. The "colored glass" is made by covering transparent glass with colored glass. At the time, this was the only technique possessed by the Satsuma Clan in Japan. When a thick layer of colored glass is cut off, the color layer becomes thinner as it goes down, creating a "blur. The large, deep cuts as well as the blurring are the characteristics of Satsuma faceted glass.

History of faceting
In the mid-Edo period, faceted glass "faceted glass" was introduced to Nagasaki and first made in Osaka, and then to Edo (present-day Tokyo), where it blossomed into the uniquely Japanese cut glass "Edo faceted glass. At the end of the Edo period, the Satsuma Clan, in order to promote the industry, created "Satsuma faceted glass," which was cut on a fabric made by layering colored glass on transparent glass, influenced by Edo faceting. Satsuma faceting, backed by the unique Japanese sensibility, boasted high technology and beauty, but it was short-lived and died out during the upheavals at the end of the Edo period. The Satsuma faceting was forgotten for a long time, but at the end of the 20th century, it was restored and its beauty was revived.
