Vintage RISDON Key Tag HEAVY DUTY Large 5" SAFETY PIN #1 Pool Locker Identifier

So I'm cleaning out my childhood home and have come across some interesting things that, through one way or another, had found themselves packed away for more than a few decades. I believe this is one of those items.

I grew up in the city of Chicago and spent many a summer day happily splashing in the Park district community pool .... Portage Park for those of you perhaps familiar with the area. This would have been in the 1970s.  I can't be completely sure, but this item looks like one of the pins used in the "locker room" (there really wasn't a room but moreso just an open air "area" where one changed. The premise was that you grabbed a metal basket, put your street clothes into it, along with your towel and any other items not needed in the pool. The basket had this kind of big pin on it as well as (if I remember correctly) a little tag with a corresponding number. You would take the little tag off and pin it to your swimsuit & then go to the booth to hand the basket to an attendant. They would safely stash the basket with your outerwear and when you were done swimming, you would come back, hand them the little numbered tag and they would go find your basket of clothing. At least that's how I remember it.   What I don't remember is how or why this giant pin came to be in my possession.   But it is a cool piece and has brought me back down the memory trail of childhood past.

This is not a wimpy weak pin... it truly is heavy duty and probably has a lot of different ways it can be used or displayed.
