The Huguenot cross, a Christian evangelical reformed faith symbol, originated in France during the Huguenot Wars (1562–1598).  Between each stylized fleur-de-lys and the arms of the Maltese cross is an open space in the form of a heart; a dove dangles from the cross symbolizing the Holy Spirit.  This very popular French religious symbol comes from an estate and has been attached to a wonderful 18K Italian flat box chain; both pieces are vintage, ca 1970s, and cannot be separated without cutting the bail on the pendant. The cross and dove have an etched design on the front and back sides. Both pieces are stamped with the French eagle mark for 750 (18k) gold.

The 18k chain is a rich yellow gold with nice heft and flexibility, a flat box chain which lies completely flat on the body. It has a spring ring clasp with an oval tag link stamped 750 and 325 VI (Vicenza, Italy). The chain is 1.3mm wide, 15" long, and weighs 5.2 grams. The cross pendant/charm measures 1" x 7/16" (25 x 12mm) and weighs .5 grams. Total weight is 5.7 grams.
