This listing is for a fragment of Beta Cloth which was flown onboard Apollo 13. This piece of fabric was inside the Command Module, just a few feet away from the oxygen tank when it exploded. And when the crew had to abandon the CM and take refuge in the Lunar Module as a lifeboat, this fabric experienced the same frigid temperatures as the crew. The artifact measures approximately 1cm across, and it's been mounted to an 8x10" photo for display. This item also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity listing its provenance.

This fabric originally belonged to the mission's Commander, Jim Lovell. Before the launch date, each crew member was allowed to stow a small parcel of personal mementos onboard Apollo 13. One of the mementos carried by Lovell was a stack of mission insignia patches, printed on the same fireproof Beta Cloth used for the spacesuits. After Apollo 13 returned home, Lovell kept the patches in his personal collection for 50 years. In 2021, he auctioned one of his flown patches via Heritage Auctions. This piece was taken from that patch.

The COA accompanying this item includes photos of the original patch, along with photos of your specific piece being removed from it. Please note that I have several of these for sale, and so you may not receive the exact item in the photos. However, you will receive one of an identical size, with the same type of documentation.
