This antique Chinese boxwood carving is a simple and masterfully carved figure of a man curled up with just his foot and part of his face protruding from his robe. Contented and relaxed as a sleeping cat, he has a wonderful expression. The wood has a rich warm patina that only comes with age. The top of his head is most curious- it has been carved into a flat top with a round protruding piece which looks like a cork but it does not move.

The carving measures 1 5/8" ( 48mm ) tall  x 1 3/4" (44mm) wide by 1 1/2" ( 38mm) deep. There are two age cracks on the front and one on the back. It is signed by the artist on the bottom.
