EMERSON WEST would do anything
for a laugh. Director of the radio show THIS IS MURDER, he moved his entire
cast and staff of technicians to the old Parker mansion to re-enact the hundred-year-old
Parker murder for the benefit of the radio Audience and a few of his guests. “Come
and see how we put murder on the air,” he wrote to Jupiter Jones, who found relaxation
from his work on the Harvard faculty by tackling knotty murder puzzles.
Not long after Jupiter and his
wife Betty arrived for the show, Emerson West lay dead in a pool of his own
blood, a victim of a murder that seemed impossible to commit. Even in death,
Emerson West seemed to be playing a practical joke.
With characteristic artfulness,
Jupiter finally comes through with the solution-- but only after two other
persons are viciously murdered, and Jupiter himself is almost made a third
victim.
