NEWFOUNDLAND 142 1923 15c PRUSSIAN BLUE LITTLE RAPIDS HUMBER RIVER 13.7X14.0 MPH

'View of Little Rapids', 15 cent value from the very popular Pictorial Issue of 1923 that features some of the finest stamp engraving ever produced. Prussian blue, perf 13.7x14.0 (at least 9 perf varieties have been recorded to date for the Pictorial Issue, 5 have been found in the 15 cent value).  Approximately 50% of original gum disturbed by previous hinging, hinge remnant. Sound, fault-free example of this Newfoundland stamp.

According to Cliff Brown in his magnificent book "Newfoundland Postage Stamp Designs" - except for the 1c and 20c stamps, all images in the 1923-24 Pictorial Issue were based on photographs taken by Robert Holloway, a well known St. John's educator and photographer. The designer of the series was Archibald Gibbs, a St. John's businessman, with the actual engravings done by Leonard V. Philips.

Recess printed from engraved plates on medium weight, crisp, white wove paper with horizontal mesh, white (almost colorless) gum. The designs of this issue were produced in relatively small formats resulting in stamps being printed very close together. Most stamps have very narrow margins or none at all with perforations cutting into one or more sides. Stamps with reasonably decent centering and perforations clear of the design on all sides may be considered as very fine for this issue. The Pictorial issue was recess printed from engraved plates by De La Rue and Company of London under contract from Whitehead, Morris and Company Limited (Whitehead, Morris and Company did not have the equipment necessary to print stamps from engraved plates). Presumably, Whitehead, Morris and Company gummed and perforated the stamps and prepared them for shipment to Newfoundland.

Images should provide all the information necessary to make a reasonably intelligent bid on this lot. However, if it doesn't live up to your expectations you are always welcome to return it for a full refund - NO QUESTIONS ASKED. My feedback speaks for itself. I am confident that a mutually satisfactory solution can be worked out to any problem that might develop. Please give me a chance to fix something that is not satisfactory to you before leaving negative feedback.

Although 3 and 4 star DSR scores may be considered "good" by just about any reasonable standard, they aren't as far as ebay is concerned. Anything but 5 ratings in a seller's DSR score may impact their ability to offer items for sale on ebay. Therefore, having an opportunity to earn your highest rating would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.
