A 4 1/4 inch tall light sun colored amethyst (SCA) druggist's beaker for measuring out medicine doses.  This one is exceptional as it has the name "Lilly" enameled on the side of it in RED enameled lettering.  Lilly was/is a large pioneer pharmaceutical company, one of the founding fathers of the USA pharmaceutical companies along with Parke Davis, Upjohn, Wyeth, and others.  This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE Blown Glass measuring beaker, dating back to early 1900.

The wonderful thing about this dose glass is the light amethyst color.  With few exceptions, only glass blown before 1914 will turn this amethyst color, from oxidizing in the sunlight.  Also few of these seen are marked with any personal or company advertising as these were just used as a tool, for a purpose.  Yet this one ornately  promotes Eli Lilly and Company, an American pharmaceutical company.  This company was founded in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1876, it's founder was Colonel Eli Lilly, who was a pharmaceutical chemist and a Union Army veteran of the American Civil War.  This beaker may of been a gift offering to pharmacists and druggists, sent along with large volumes of product purchased from Lilly & Co.   Or it could of been a measuring glass used by the Lilly Company internally, by the employed chemists who used such tools while working in the Lilly laboratory.  Whatever, it is a really nice looking antique dose glass, possibly a RARE GLASS as well, check it out!
