At 302,000 square feet, the Federal Building in Juneau is the largest building in Southeast Alaska and was the largest building in the state when it was constructed. The nine-story building houses the United States Courthouse, Post Office, Alaska Communications Service, Coast Guard District Headquarters, the Army Corps of Engineers, Fish and Game Department, and many other agencies. The exterior is precast concrete, which was fabricated in Everett, Washington, and barged to Alaska. The building has a structural steel frame with vertical trusses for earthquake loads.
