Akumetsu"" is a Japanese violent political manga written by Yoshiaki Tabata and drawn by Hiroki Yohko. It was serialized in ""Weekly Shonen Champion"" (Akita Shoten) from issue #43 in 2002 to issue #17 in 2006 (April 6). It was published by Akita Shoten (Shonen Champion Comics) in 18 volumes, with 162 episodes. There are 162 episodes in total.

Synopsis.

At the beginning of the 21st century, Japan's political system is in bankruptcy, yet the politicians and bureaucrats who caused it continue to suck the sweet juice without taking responsibility. Then one day, Shozo Iwasaki, an advisor to the Daito Bank, is murdered by a masked man who calls himself ""Akumetsu. It was the beginning of a series of events that rocked Japan for a month.

Akumetsu condemns the wicked in public, killing them one after another and dying himself. People were horrified by the unidentified masked man who kept coming back to life, no matter how many times he died, but since his targets were limited to the bad guys and good citizens were not harmed, many people gradually came to agree with his principles. Later, copycats calling themselves Akumetsu appeared, but they spontaneously disappeared before the ""one man, one kill"" principle of killing evil and then taking one's own life.

The extraordinary simultaneous Akumetsu Incidents led to a mass purge of more than 300 family members and bureaucrats in one fell swoop. The Takimaru clan, a gang that controls the underworld, takes advantage of this situation and launches a new government under the guise of the Takimaru Ichizo, including senior police and Self-Defense Forces officials. Aiming to eliminate Akumetsu and to obtain the ""Plant,"" the source of Akumetsu's immortality and ability to simultaneously generate multiple deaths, they mobilize irregular forces of the Self-Defense Forces, who have their breath taken away, and under the guise of Akumetsu, occupy a high school in Sakoma, then attack the Prime Minister's office and stage a coup d'état. The students are taken hostage and the ""plant"" is suppressed, but Akumetsu succeeds in gaining the cooperation of some police and turns around and launches a counterattack.
