Description:
A charming, beautifully illustrated volume of the first edition of 1897. Bound in dark brown crushed half morocco and brown mottled paper-covered boards, spine with five raised bands and gilt lettering. Top edge gilt. Binding remains sound, firm, and clean with just a little light wear to extremities. Internally, also sound and firm. Marbled endpapers, clean and bright. Original pictorial card covers bound in at front and rear. Pages and illustrations mostly clean and tidy throughout, just occasional light blemishes, though p.131 and opposing blank page somewhat age-toned. One leaf (pp. 135-6) with short tear to fore-edge margin. Text in French.
