Description

For your consideratuion I am offering a drop- dead gorgeous and rare photographic album from a  Farmville,Virginia family with the last name of Paulette. The album was obviously complied by a girl or lady given the romantic gender orientation in the images. There are only three images of  actual persons (ladies) in the album with two showing  Farmville,Va. photographers identifications  and the other an actress portraying Joan of Arc. Several of the cdv's have been beautifully hand- colored and methodically organized.  The rarity however does not necessarily point towards the images, but the Carte de visite album itself. I seen only one other example of this album in 40 years of collecting and that example was not nearly in the condition this one represents. This album had an  unidentified artist adorn the pages with a nautical theme art using a technique known as “fore-edge painting,” in which the book is fanned open using a special press, letting the artist create a painting across the edges of the pages that become visible  when the album is closed. The beauty of the technique is complimented by the gold gilting to the edges and aesthetic perfection of the tooled brass latches. Bottom line: It was not an album sold by the photographer for the faint of heart in regard to the pursestrings~   If you collect only the best here it is.
