Also known as Skeletonweed, Jointed Grass and Snakeweed, horsetail is an ancient North American plant that has evolved from a tree-sized species 325 million years ago to a persistent weed 1-4 feet in height. Because the herb was once used to scour pots and pans, it is also known as Scouring Rush.

The hollow stems of the plant are rich in silica, which is used in the food and beverage industries as an anti-foaming agent and clarifier. Silica is also essential for healthy skin, hair and nails.
