[Introduction] UH-1 (UH-1 Iroquois) is a medium-sized general-purpose helicopter designed and manufactured by Bell Helicopter Company in the United States. It is officially named "Iroquois" (the name of one of the indigenous tribes of North America) according to the naming tradition of the US military, and Bell Helicopter Company has also given it the nickname "Huey", which is more widely known. In 1959, Bell Corporation began the development of a larger HU-1B, which had 8 passenger seats instead of the original 4. From 1961 to 1965, a total of 1014 HU-1Bs were produced for the Army. In September 1962, the US Department of Defense passed the Uniform Numbering Rules for Air Vehicles of the Three Services, which changed HU-1A/B to UH-1A/B. UH-1B participated heavily in the Vietnam War, some of which became armed helicopters after installing the M-6E3 weapon system.
