This listing is for a genuine piece of aluminum skin from RAF Supermarine Spitfire R6753, which was shot down by a Messerschmitt Bf-109 in the Battle of Britain. This artifact has been affixed to a 6" x 8" acrylic display piece by Ron Cole, the owner of an aviation museum and art gallery in Ohio. This piece is now completely sold out at Cole's store.

Spitfire R6753 was built by Supermarine at the Woolston factory, and its first flight took place on June 13th, 1940. It was assigned to 603 Squadron based at Turnhouse, Scotland, where it was operated in air defense duties. 603 Squadrom moved to R.A.F. Hornchurch on August 27th, which was a front-line base for fighters during the Battle of Britain. The unit was in combat the very next day. On August 29th, R7653, with pilot David John Colin Pinckney at the controls, tangled with Bf 109s of the Luftwaffe over Kent. Pinckney shot one down before being hit himself. At 06:42, he bailed out of this Spitfire, which crashed near St. Mary's Road, Dymchurch. Pinckney spent several weeks in hospital but then returned to combat. His Spitfire was excavated in 1979.
