  • For your consideration is an EARLY plaquette with quite intriguing and UNUSUAL subject 
  • Cast bronze or brass bucolic scene after the Antique, depicting Bacchus or Silenus with grapes & vines wreath, seated on a barrel with two attendants offering him drink
  • The unusual appearance of monkeys dancing around and sitting on his head is an allegory of drunkenness, which will cause a crazy, primate behavior
  • Exquisitely elaborated, very detailed image 
  • Circa 16th century. Continental, possibly Italian or German

  • Measurements: Approx. 2.5" wide x 2.75" tall

  • Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. Beautiful even patination developed over time. All original and intact
