Sindey S. Hicks (American, 19th/20th c.) Watercolor, Seaside Raft and Cauldron

  • For your consideration is a charming old watercolor
  • Masterly executed coastal scenery, centered on a roughly made raft, resting ashore and a cast iron cauldron aside it. In the background a sailing boat is discernable, as to contradict the loneliness of the primitive vessel
  • The almost "En grisaille" palette and the hardly noticeable shores on the horizon, deepen the sense of timelessness
  • Signed lower left: Sid. S. Hicks
  • Sidney S. Hicks was an American painter, active along the California Coast in the late 19th/early 20th century
  • The watercolor is presented in off-white painted wooden frame and gray matting, under glass.
  • All original

  • Measurements: Approx. 23.25" x 15.5" framed; 14.5" x 7" the scene only
  • Weighs about 4 lbs.

  • Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. Some age related scuffs to the frame. All original.
