Antique 1766-1767 Ottoman Turkey Covered Bowl SAHAN Tin Lined Thick Shaved Copper #2

  • For your consideration is an impressive 18th century covered dish
  • A large shallow bowl (sahan), made of shaved thick copper, capped by a tall domed lid with lathe turned finial  
  • It has been plated with tin originally, which is now mostly rubbed off from extensie cleaning over time, exposing the wonderfully patinated copper
  • There is some engraved marking at the bottom rim in Perso-Arabic, Kufic script, dating the dish to Hijri year 1181
  • Circa 1766-1767, Ottoman Empire

  • Measurements: Approximately 9.75" diameter (across) x 7" high with the lid
  • It weighs 2 lbs. 9 oz.
