Je vous propose cette rare paire de patères de vestiaire anciennes. Elles comportent un crochet de manteau avec un deuxième crochet au-dessus pour le chapeau. Leur taille importante et leur superbe décor en font une rare trouvaille pour les amateurs d'antiquités architecturales.

Datant de l'époque Napoléon III, elles sont richement décorées de volutes et de feuilles d'acanthe et ornées de  mascarons. Ce motif de masque grotesque peut surprendre, mais dans l'architecture et les arts décoratifs, le mascaron était un élément de protection fréquent. Placé au-dessus de la porte ou dans le hall d'entrée, la fonction de ce visage chimérique était à l'origine d'effrayer les mauvais esprits afin qu'ils ne pénètrent pas dans le bâtiment ! Le concept a ensuite été adapté pour devenir un élément purement décoratif.

Ces pièces ne sont pas nettoyées ; je les ai laissées telles que je les ai trouvées avec leur patine du temps qui accentue leur caractère et leurs dessin. Cependant, vous pourriez les nettoyer selon votre préférence. 

En bon état d'usage, veuillez noter des imperfections dues à leur age et leur utilisation :

-   les platines arrières présentent une légère courbure qui peut nécessiter un calage lors de leur fixation au mur

-   les deux patères sont du même modèle mais leur forme exacte et leur patine ne sont pas totalement identiques d'une pièce à l'autre

-   l'une des patères a été renforcée par 2 petits boulons au niveau de la jonction du crochet avec la platine arrière.

Look at these stunning French cloakroom hooks !  Their scale and detailing make them a fabulous find for lovers of architectural antiques.

Dating circa 1860, they are cast in gilt bronze, and carry a rich and detailed design of scrolls and acanthus leaves. Each one features a Mascaron, a mythical grotesque mask. This may seem a surprising motif, but in French architecture and decorative arts, a Mascaron was a frequent protective feature. Placed above the door or in the entrance hall, the function of this chimeric face was originally to frighten away evil spirits so that they would not enter the building ! The concept was subsequently adapted to become a purely decorative element.

I have left these fabulous pieces just as I found them with their patina of time, which accentuates their character and detailing. They have not been cleaned, but could be if this is your preference.

In good overall antique condition, but please note that they show imperfections due to use and the passage of time :

-  the backplates show some curving and a little wedging will be necessary when fixing them to the wall

-  there are minor differences in shape and patina from one hook to the other

-  one hook has been réinforced by two small bolts at the junction of the hook with the backplate.
