Lot of two (2) antique Shaker clothespins, both wood. One is oak, and the other appears white birch (?). Metal bands near the top. These are very early clothespins, likely dating back to the late 1700s to early 1800's. They were likely brought to America by the Shakers, who invented the first clothespin. The oak clothespin measures 5.25" long x .75 inches diameter. The lighter one measures 4 7/8" long x 5/8" diameter. Both in very good condition with light wear. The white one has some old slivering at the bottom end, yet even those areas have nice and smooth aged patina (both a very nice patina with no rough areas). Both metal bands are discolored, but NO rust, etc. rubs off when I rub it. They both have some wiggle but are secure. Use these to display with your primitive/antique laundry decor, or add to your clothespin collection. Also makes a very impressive gift to a collector! These true historical artifacts are becoming harder and harder to find, and there are currently only two Shakers left in the world!
