Advertising FDC 1280 Frank Lloyd Wright Spring Green Wis United Air Lines
Commercially Used Advertising First Day Covers.
Since the start of First Day Covers Collecting, Corporations have used FDC to target customers to purchase their wares. Sometimes it is not easy to identify one of these covers because they appear like other covers of the era. Most of these are typed addressed and come with an advertising insert.
Ayerst Laboratories, a Pharmacia company in the 1950s (Now part of Pfizer) sent Doctors and other medical providers First Day Covers with a letter telling about the stamp on the cover . After discussing the stamp they change the subject and PUSHED their drugs. Sometimes they include a brochure.
This must have been a successful use of Advertising Dollars because other Pharmacia companies as well as Airlines, Newspapers and a plethora of other type of companies have followed suite. These covers are still highly sought after by collectors. Especially the ones that include the letter sent to the Customer.
In most cases they used 6 3/4 with the letter folded inside the envelope.
If you purchase this item I may mail the letter folded to save on postage.
