This is a

ANTIQUE

EGYPTIAN REVIVAL

BRASS  OIL LAMP 

with a 

PATENT MECHANISM INSIDE.
 

In my estimation it dates from around the early 19th Century, but please make up your own mind about this.

The lamp measures approx 7 inches (180mm) long and is made from brass throughout.

It is modeled in the classical Egyptian style, popular at the beginning of the 19th Century. 

The lid hinges up to reveal a patent mechanism (long defunct), which would have been operated by squeezing the snake handles.

The base is marked

B & A B 

PATENT

It in good, antique  condition, with light wear in keeping with its great age.

This is a fine example of its type and it would make beautiful display piece and be a great addition to any collection.
