This copy has been initialled by the author (JMD) to Horatio Nelson Goddard, Esquire, in April 1869. The author was a Clerk of the Peace in Oxfordshire since 1831. Horatio Nelson Goddard was a JP for Oxfordshire and Wiltshire, and was active as a J.P. in dealing with the agricultural riots in north Wiltshire in 1830 (after the Salisbury Swing Riots)

About the Book

A history of Oxfordshire, arranged through the presence and events in the county of sovereigns and princes etc, with lists of County Court judges, Revising Barristers, Clerks of the Peace. The history begins with England under the Romans, through the Anglo-Saxons, Danish, Norman, Blois, Plantagenets through to Queen Victoria.

Condition

The red cloth boards have mottled fading along the fore-edge, and light foxing to the first and last few pages but the main body of text is in very good order.
