Antique Chinese Red Silk Forbidden Stitch Embroidery Figural Roundels Robe Jacket

This antique Chinese red silk forbidden stitch embroidery figural roundels robe jacket dates from the 1920s. It is made of a red silk fabric, with multicolored forbidden stitch embroidery Peking knots roundels medallions of Chinese women figures and interlocking ring circle designs with flowers and outlined in goldwork couching embroidery. This lucky red surcoat style short robe jacket is loose fitting, with a mandarin collar, long full sleeves, white silk multicolored floral butterfly Peking knot embroidered trim, collar, cuffs with a black silk band of goldwork couching embroidery details, blue silk piping edging, knotted toggle closures down the front and is fully lined in a red silk fabric with remnants of a paper label inside the front opening neck. The robe measures 27 inches long, with a 42 inch chest and a 14 inch neck. It is in good condition, with a few faint small stains on the cuffs (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful piece of Chinese wearable art!
