The 377th Medical Company was based at Pleiku in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and was equipped with UH-1 Iroquois helicopters, commonly known as "Hueys." The Hueys were modified to serve as medical evacuation aircraft, with equipment such as stretchers, medical supplies, and specialized medical personnel on board.
The DUSTOFF crews flew into combat zones to retrieve wounded soldiers, often under heavy enemy fire, and provided critical medical care and transport to ensure that wounded soldiers received prompt and effective treatment. The crews also transported medical personnel, blood, and other medical supplies to where they were needed most.
The 377th Medical Company was one of the most decorated units of the Vietnam War, receiving numerous awards and commendations for its service, including the Presidential Unit Citation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm.
