1982 Press Photo Wrecker truck hits semi, explodes, and burns in Texas accident

This is an original press photo. Details of the spectacular freeway crash Monday which produced a Houston hero are discussed by Houston police Officer M. L. Pierce and Jack Shirley, at left, scratching his head. Shirley owns the wrecker truck in the background, right, which exploded and burned after colliding with the 18-wheel truck, left, in the 3400 block of South Loop West. Lyle Motok, 21, of Houston, driver of the wrecker, suffered severe burns and, witnesses said, probably owes his life to the quick actions of Carl Bolt, who reached into the flames and pulled Motok from his cab. S.E. Carr was the investigating officer. Photo measures 10 x 8 inches. Photo is dated 03-02-1982.
