The 2012 Purple Heart Forever Imperforate Sheet in mint
condition. The Purple Heart is the
oldest military decoration in the world that is still in use. Moreover, it is
the first award available to the lower ranks. General George Washington ordered
the establishment of a badge of distinction for meritorious action on August 7,
1782. He wrote, "The road to glory in a patriot army is thus open to all." In 1943, with the establishment of the Legion
of Merit – a military decoration awarded for exceptional service and
achievement – the requirements for the Purple Heart changed. Since
then, a person must be a member of the U.S. Armed Forces and wounded or killed
in action to be awarded the Purple Heart.
The
2012 Purple Heart stamp features a photograph taken by Ira Wexler of a Purple
Heart Medal awarded during World War II. The image of the medal was
enlarged from that used on the 2011 stamp.
The
2012 Purple Heart imperforate sheet consists of 20 Forever Stamps (Scott
#4704a) for a face value of $11.60.
The stamp sheet is in excellent
condition and show no bends, folds, tears, or imperfections. See pictures for the actual sheet you will receive.
