attached is because in soviet times many people did not have bank
accounts or did not trust the soviet banks or feel safe leaving their
money in banks.
So they would save up their cash for a while and then buy gold jewelry which became their own banking system.
For them, this saving gold was not for wearing, it was a form of saving.
