1847 U.S. Stampless cover with letter and receipt for a journal --- green Princeton N.J. Jun 2 (New Jersey - June) circular dated postmark at left with Paid & 5 stamped in green at upper right;

Addressed to John W.C. Evans, Pemburton, Burlington County, New Jersey with Paid in script at bottom left corner -- partial red wax seal on back of cover --- the back cover flap has been carefully opened with most of the wax seal in place -- creases, small tears and minor soiling;

There are two enclosures.  A letter dated Princeton 2 June 1847 that begins, "My dear Sir, The Journal is printed & in the binders hands, will be in Trenton next week, one month sooner than the .... requires."

"How can I send you a copy or can you get on from Trenton?  Please let me know & I will see that you get it."

"Below, I send a form of the Certificate.  Will you please sign & send it to me soon as you can."

"How sudden & how sad is the death of our friend, Paxson (spelling).  I can hardly yet realise it.  His loss to me is great but how much greater to his family.  He has been for many years my most in..... friend.  Will you be here at the commencement?  I shall be very glad to see you.  Very truly yours, Alex M. Cumming"

The 2nd enclosure is a receipt - "Received Rahway, April 5th 1847 of Alexander M. Cummings, a copy of the Journal of the House of Assembly furnished to me by the Printer of said Journal."  It is signed, E.F. W. Gray

Small slits and holes and slight discoloration at folded edges and corners --- creases from folding;

For United States residents, all items or combined items will be sent with free shipping by USPS First Class Mail, NOT BY USPS GROUND ADVANTAGE, which will be paid by the buyer ($3 to $5);

Bidders from all countries other than the USA pay $2.00 shipping/handling (s/h) for stamps for the 1st ounce and $2.75 s/h for covers, post cards and booklets for the 1st ounce except if a registered fee is required.
