1950 Press Photo Sketch Showing Microwave Beam Sent from Plant to Substation
This artist's sketch shows the course followed by the bouncing radio waves. A message originating at the generating plant is first beamed at the mountain-top reflector sheet about two miles away. After bouncing off the sheet, the high-frequency waves travel 12 miles through a valley to the sub-station receiving tower. Because of the position of the various hills and mountains adjacent to the valley, the microwaves must travel in a path that is only 50 feet wide. The reflector sheet also serves as a "billiard cushion" for messages originating at the sub-station and destined for the generating plant. Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches. Photo Is dated 1950.
