As many of you know, I specialize in finding old stories of long ago that have been overlooked, seldom found and rarely read. Here is the story entitled

A TOWN OF GOURDS

by James A. Long.

This reports on the present ghost town of Calabasas, Arizona, it's history including it's hey day. Seems this was a bustling town back in 1870 era. Fact of the matter, it was written up in the New York Daily Graphic as having been selected as a townsite and center for an important, prospective mining and agricultural region by a company formed in San Francisco, of which Senator John P. Jones and Colonel C. P. Sykes are directors. Well, the town boomed. 2,500 lots were sold out of 2,800 available. There were 16 saloons, six gambling tables, two dance halls, two Chinese gambling houses, one opium den and five stores. In 1893, thee were 800 residents, the Santa Rita Hotel, two stage lines--a bustling community. Then, silver collasped and the long slow exodus. You will love reading of the history of Calabasas, it beginning, growth and death.

Because many of the old American western magazines and books were not indexed and their heroes lost to posterity, I index every item I sell. See below for each and every name included in this great story.

Your Hero might be there!
