A very beautiful signed oil by Madeleine Clavier the french artist known as the “Painter of Poetry and Song”. She exhibited widely in the United States and at such prestigious galeries as Bernheim Jeune in Paris in the 1970’s. She painted for herself rather than forprofit and her paintings have never been offered at auction before. Her work isheld in many collections in the United States, Europe and Korea. A book has been published about her work.

Madeleine Christine Clavier wasborn in Saigon in 1913 to french parents and lived there for her formativeyears. She returned to France as a teenager and began to study painting. Herwork quickly developed into paintings of poetry and songs - harmonised in aunique and distinct painting technique.
She had numerous solo exhibitionsin the 1970’s- notably at the Maison Francais in New York , New York Universityand Galerie Bernheim Jeune in Paris.
She won many awards for her workincluding Gold Medals and Palme D’Or’s.
In 1988 the prestigious art publisherLeopard D’Or produced an 88 page hardbook book on her life and work.
She died in 2015 aged 102.
