Vintage Porcelain and Gilt Capodimonte Covered Urn with Mythological Figures -

Dimensions are ; 13 1/2" high , 7 3/4" wide at the handles , 5 3/4" deep , with a base diameter of 4 9/16" . Maker is Capodimonte M+R . This is quintessential Capodimonte , richly polychromed and gilt porcelain , highly figured , double handled and lidded. Founded in 1743 by Charles lll of Naples , Capodimonte ( 'top of the mountain' ) , created a great and wide variety of soft paste porcelain pieces. They featured lavish hand painted and detailed vessels , figural statues , candelabrum , dishes , plates , et al . Highly collected , they are wonderful display pieces. This Covered Urn is not only in perfect condition , but it has not been 'altered' in any way as some similar pieces currently available are. There are no attached metal pieces ( which the Capodimonte factory never did ) or refitting for purposes of conversion into a lamp. This Urn is pristine , just as it came from the Capodimonte Factory in the mountains of Italy. It is marked in gold script on the underside and bears the silver and blue 'M+R' sticker indicating that it was hand painted. There are 12 colorful figures circling the body of the Urn and 2 more seated figures which form the handles. There is a small cover. A beautiful work by a legendary Italian porcelain maker.
