The design is a classical border on a traditional pointed end shaped handle. The edges feature a Bellflower motif. The punch ladle is a piece of silver that most people never own. They tend to be rare in American silverplate. The purpose of it is to go into a large punch bowl and lift out servings of punch, then pour them into individual cups. What makes the punch ladle useful is that it is the ideal serving piece for emergency company. When guests show up unannounced. When a last minute invitation is extended. One of the most elegant ways of entertaining is to bring out the punch bowl and ladle, and serve punch to the guests. It is also one of the easiest ways to impress people. Punch is relatively simple to make, and once the first round is ladled out, guests refresh their own cups. Punch ladles make wonderful gifts for churches, and no caterer should be without a fancy one. The silverplate punch ladles stand up very well to use. The item offered here is a true punch ladle, not a soup ladle. The difference is that the punch ladle has pour lips on each side of the bowl. The hollow handle punch ladle offered here measures about 14 1/2". This is not a piece of new silver. It shows the patina of as much as 110 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss, but the rest points on the back of the bowl do show wear in the form of little scratches, the result of age and reasonable use. This ladle has been carefully used and well cared for. I polish all silver before listing on eBay. Please email with any questions before bidding.
