Description

This Pastel Green Snorkel Statesman is in excellent restored condition. The palladium silver Triumph nib has been smoothed and the flow adjusted slightly moist so that this pen is a pleasure to use.

This Version of the Snorkel

The Statesman model is one of Sheaffer's White Dot models featuring a wider gold-filled cap band, spring-loaded clip, and Triumph nib. The Snorkel system is probably the most complex filling system found on a fountain pen, but nevertheless reliable and easy to maintain.

Sheaffer's White Dot Statesman features a palladium silver Triumph nib (80% palladium, 20% silver). Palladium silver is a precious metal that Sheaffer began using in 1933 for the masks on premium gold nibs because of its excellent ink flow properties. Modern fountain pens with palladium silver nibs sell for about the same price as comparable models with 14k gold nibs.

Those who are attracted to gold nibs for gold's inherent value as a precious metal should be aware that palladium has recently sold for $1000 to $1300 on the spot market.

I will include a photocopy of an original Sheaffer's Snorkel instructions leaflet.
