Elvie Hill maxi dress (vintage 1970s)

Being custom made so no size or fabric tag

Shoulder to Shoulder: 44 cms

Bust: 38 - 40 inches

Waist (elasticised): 32 inches (max.)

Length: 58 inches (148 cms)

Blue with multicolour floral print

Ruffles at neckline

Pleated fabric

Sash belt (belt loops on the sides) can be worn as scarf too

Fully lined (except for sleeves)

Exterior is in excellent vintage condition except for thread pull on the ruffled collar (hardly noticeable)

Couple of faint stains on the lining

Shoulder pads have lost their padding

Scarf/ sash has a few pulls and couple of holes

Elvie Hill established an eponymous label in the 1940s in Melbourne and became well known for her elegant and feminine designs. She dressed some of Australia's best known women, including Lady Sonia McMahon and Dame Pattie Menzies, and was also known for her boutiques in Melbourne (her boutique on the "Paris-end" of Collins Street stayed open until 1991). Hill's work was influenced by other Australian designers such as Norman Hartnell. She retired at age 80 in 1999
