On offer, we have the cheese server tray and dome designed by Michael Graves for Alessi. This 3-piece set consists of a stainless steel tray, Swiss cheese pattern ceramic dish and a clear plastic dome with a mighty mouse handle. The 15" diameter tray is just over 5/8" deep and stamped on the back "Alessi INOX 18/10 Italy". The butter colored Swiss Cheese dish is 10 1/2" in diameter and 1 3/4" tall. It is printed on the bottom "Alessi Italy". The 12 1/4" diameter clear plastic dome has a 2 1/8" mouse handle. The set is 8" tall. It weighs 5 pounds 12 ounces. Research tells me these were a Limited Edition Alessi produced in 1986.
"Michael Graves (1934-2015) designed this charming cartoon mouse on the outside of the domed plastic lid. The adorable mouse reminds us of Topo Gigio, star of a TV show aired in both Italy and Spain in the 1960s, but best known in the United States for his appearances on the Ed Sullivan show. Or perhaps it was a nod by Graves to another famous mouse, as he designed numerous buildings for Disney beginning in the mid-1980s." (invaluable.com).
This appears to be in excellent condition, possibly never used. I do see some shelf wear with very light scratches on both the tray and the dome. This in its original condition for you to choose to polish, or not. As I am not an expert, please see my photographs for more description.
This belongs to my friend who is moving to a much smaller home and parting with many of his treasures.
