Clay and brick are commonly used in the production of these utilitarian jugs.
Haiti has a rich history of pottery making that dates back to the pre-Columbian era.  Molding and shaping are done by hand and the clay is fired in an open-air kiln often fueled by wood or charcoal.

The age of this piece is undetermined but shows honest age wear.  The lip of the vessel has a crack, exposing the material used.  Remnants of an orange glaze are present in areas. The piece is signed "KPK" The belly of the piece features two thin incised lines around the circumference of the jug. The piece was likely made as a utilitarian vessel, or, because signed, possibly meant for artistic purposes or for trade or sale.  Some stylistic and aesthetic elements include slanted lines across the top portion of the jug.
